2026 Manifesto Launch

List of Lib Dem "day-one" pledges

In just a few weeks, Haringey residents will be voting to decide who represents us locally, and who should run our council.

Haringey has been the country’s most complained about council for two years in a row, has been rated the worst council for dealing with damp & mould in the council houses it owns, and has plunged the Council into tens of millions of pounds of debt - forced to borrow the 4th largest amount in England from central government just to balance the books.

All this has led to the London Evening Standard dubbing us “England’s ‘most rotten’ borough”.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Today we are launching our manifesto, based proudly on our liberal values, with power handed back to communities, and completely changing the entire culture of Haringey Council.

We know, from first hand experience of being the Opposition party in Haringey, that we need to rebuild the council from the ground up.

A council designed in 2026 serving the needs of the present and the future.

And the Liberal Democrats are the only party here locally with the knowledge, experience, and proven track record to make it happen, and provide the new leadership Haringey needs.

A Haringey where politics and choices happen in people’s homes, in parks, libraries, leisure centres, town centres, businesses, places of worship and everywhere in between. Not hidden away in brand new vanity project council offices costing the taxpayer £70 million.

We want to bring fairness back to Haringey:

  • 6,000 new council homes, plus new affordable and intermediate homes

  • customer services in our town centres

  • a financial transformation plan with real oversight

  • protecting and investing in our public assets, green spaces and town centres

  • working with the Met to bring visible community policing back to our streets

  • creating the spaces and opportunities for every resident to thrive

  • and so much more…
