Liberal Democrat councillors in Highgate have criticised Haringey Council’s decision to delay consultation on extending the Highgate Station Outer Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) until after May 2026, calling the move “A half-measure, years overdue”.

Local councillors and residents have long campaigned for the CPZ to be expanded to include Bishopswood Road and Hampstead Lane. Long-term parking of motorhomes and caravans has caused a number of issues, with multiple fires and sanitary issues raised. Despite this campaign, the council has deferred the consultation to the 2026/27 financial year, prompting frustration in the community.

Cllr Scott Emery, Liberal Democrat councillor for Highgate, said:
“This consultation is already years behind time. Delaying it further is a real blow to residents who have been calling for action. Haringey must rethink this timeline and bring the consultation forward. Not doing so would be a half-measure, years overdue. Haringey need to stop kicking the can down the road and take action.”
