Highgate Lib Dems write to Green councillor over "Zionism is Racism" controversy

Liberal Democrat councillors for Highgate, Cllr Nick da Costa and Cllr Scott Emery, have written to their Green colleague, Cllr Eva Bell, to clarify her stance on the party's "Zionism is Racism" motion. This follows the letter from Highgate Synagogue to the Leader of the Council, Mark Blake.

7.5% of Highgate ward residents, numbering around 1000 people, are Jewish. This ranks Highgate ward third in terms of the number of Jewish residents (behind South Tottenham and Fortis Green) in Haringey. It is the only ward with a Green councillor where Jewish people make up over 2% of the population.

Our councillors are calling on Cllr Eva Bell, among other things, to distance herself from the motion, and to commit to working with community organisations across Highgate.
