Hornsey Town Hall-A great community asset

I was pleased to read in your newspaper about the Crouch End Arts Festival’s bid to turn Hornsey Town Hall into a community asset.

It is essential that the Town Hall remains open to the public once it is restored to its former glory, which is why the Lib Dem councillor for Crouch End, Sarah Elliott, recently asked the Labour Cabinet if they would be prepared to start all over again if the right plans for the Town Hall are not put forward by developers.

Hornsey Town Hall is at the heart of Crouch End's thriving and vibrant culture and it would be wonderful if the building could be owned and run by the local community instead of a developer.

The Liberal Democrats welcome the Crouch End Festival’s bid to make the Town Hall, and the adjacent Square and Green, community assets. It is also very encouraging to see that they have the support of the Crouch End Neighbourhood Forum, Hornsey Dance and the London Metropolitan Brass band.

If the Town Hall is listed as an Asset of Community Value the local community will then have the option of halting any lease or sale of the building for 6 months whilst they put together a bid to lease or buy the building.

Cllr Sarah Elliott and the Liberal Democrat team will continue to work with the local community to ensure the right solution is found for the future of our Town Hall.
