Labour are not doing enough to support community centres

HLD

Haringey Liberal Democrats have criticised the Labour-run for not providing enough support for local community centres. Some centres in the borough are having their funding cut or are being asked to pay more rent which they are struggling to find.

David Beacham, Lib Dem Councillor for Alexandra ward, comments:

"Community centres play an important role in our borough. The Labour-run council should be working with them not making life more difficult.

"Whilst I understand the council needs to find ways to save money, it would be far better if the substantial bill for agency staff at the council was reduced instead of cutting funding for community centres.

"Residents in Haringey pay the fifth highest council tax in London and rightly expect that money to be spent on services for the local community not on expensive agency staff and consultants."
