Last chance: 'school streets' consultation

Many of you will be aware that the council is currently consulting on a new round of 'school streets', where roads are closed outside of schools at drop off and pickup times, outside: Muswell Hill Primary, Highgate Wood, Hornsey School for Girls, Norfolk House, Our Lady of Muswell, Tetherdown, Eden Primary and Fortismere.
The extended consultation deadline is this Friday, 9th May. So if you want to have your say, please do ensure your put your submissions in by this date - and make sure to include information on how these proposals could affect your individual circumstances.
Lib Dems are very much in favour of the council taking measures to ensure children’s safety as they walk or cycle to school, and School Streets are one part of this. However, school streets are typically used on quieter, residential roads; whereas the council's current proposals here are to close a number of key roads simultaneously, and in close proximity to one another, possibly creating ‘rat-runs’ along adjacent residential roads which children currently use to walk or cycle along to school, and creating further bottlenecks through areas like Muswell Hill Town Centre.
We have therefore asked the Lead Cabinet Member, and senior transport officers at the Council, to undertake a full traffic assessment into how the proposed closures will affect neighbouring streets; and managed to secure an extension to the consultation period to this Friday, 9th May.
We would encourage any of you who can, to respond to the consultation by Friday, so the council can take into account the views of residents and parents.
