SUCCESS! Berkeley Road Footway resurfacing

Cllr Luke Cawley-Harrison, Fiona Orford-Williams & Imad Ahmed

Dear Resident(s),

We are delighted to confirm that we have just received provisional notice from the council’s highways department that the footway on Berkeley Road between Crouch Hall Road and Russell Road (odds side) has just this week been APPROVED for resurfacing in the coming financial year (2026/27) – subject to final budgetary approval.

Those of you on our email mailing list may recall that in the autumn we asked for resident submissions for areas of Crouch End that needed highways maintenance or resurfacing work. Following submissions to us regarding the state of the pavements on Berkeley Road – especially on the odds side towards the doctors’ surgery – we met with a resident of your road to talk through the issue, and take photos to include with our requests to the council.

We also encouraged residents of the road to send us supporting comments we could include, and I understand that this was also circulated via your street communication channels.

Thanks to the support of your submissions, last month we received notice that the council had provisionally agreed to resurface the footway on Berkeley Road, but only between Crouch Hall Road and Number 1 on the odds side.

Given the state of the footway, we pushed back strongly on this, requesting that they revisit their plans for Berkeley and include the stretch from Crouch Hall Road all the way through to Russell Road.

We are very pleased to say that senior officers have just yesterday agreed to this.  In addition, they will be putting the evens side of Berkeley Road on the provisional list for future years work which a few of you also raised with us.

Thank you so much to everyone that helped with this, sending us emails of support and photos to help strengthen our case to the council.

We shall keep you updated when we have further information for the work, including dates and any parking restrictions that may be required. Should highways only confirm this after May’s local elections: then dependent on having the privilege of being elected to represent Crouch End and carry on our hard work of course.

If you have any queries about this matter, or other problems to raise with us as your local team at any time, please don't hesitate in getting in touch. We are also always eager to hear your suggestions for improvements to the local area and what your priorities are, so we can make these our priorities too.

You can always email us at crouch.end@haringeylibdems.org; or reach call, text or WhatsApp Councillor Luke Cawley-Harrison on 07976977705; or pop along to Luke’s Councillor drop-in surgeries the first Saturday of every month 10.30-11.30 at Hornsey Library.

Yours sincerely,

Imad Ahmed, Cllr Luke Cawley-Harrison & Fiona Orford-Williams

P.S. Under Labour Haringey Council has been England’s most complained about council for
two years in a row and has fallen into millions of pounds of debt.

Meanwhile, Liberal Democrat Councillors are ambitious for Haringey. We want to work for residents
all year round, listening and delivering on your priorities. Together we can change Haringey for the better.
